So I’m writing a sort of genre bash of high fantasy meets gritty noir drama, and while I have tons of experience with fantasy, I realized, much to.my embarrassment, my interactions wit the noir genre are limited to Spiderman Noir, Archer Dreamland, a hazy recollect of Casablanca, and BMO Noir.
I was just gonna dive in to the old pulps and movies, but I realized pretty quickly that most stories from that time are going to be rife with some of the more conservative views of the time.
I’m not new or shy to that kind of thing. I’ve read and devoured Lovecraft, and it can’t get much worse than him. But I’d rather read a book that isn’t making me sigh every couple of pages.
Bonus points if:
– It’s set in the 40s-50s
– There’s an audio book available
