I regularly see this book being recommended on here in response to people seeking all sorts of different things, so that piqued my interest. Having just read it, I have to say I was very underwhelmed. I felt like it had great potential but that everything it tried to do just fizzled out before it got there and it just didn’t hit the spot for me in any of its aspects. Elements of it reminded me of other books that I’ve read and very much enjoyed, but ultimately I just found it disappointing.
I know reading is a very individual and subjective thing, so there’s no requirement to appreciate a book just because some other people do, but I’m interested to know what other people got from this book that I didn’t. I read a very wide range of genres and authors from different eras, so it’s not as though I can just say it wasn’t a genre I enjoy, for example.
