Hello you all!
I’ve been thinking about pieces of media I really liked and (re-)discovered my love for supernatural and mystic fantasy. I loved American Gods the TV series. The protagonist gets thrown into a supernatural world and is subjected to weird and new things that don’t (yet) make sense, until at some point things begin to dawn on them…
The video game “Control” with it’s “new weird” elements (inspired by SCP) is also fascinating; it does the same thing – throw the player into a new, weird and supernatural world where at first nothing makes sense, but the more you continue the more awesome it gets.
Previously I barely read anything other than Eragon and New World (by Patrick Ness), but that was maybe 15 years ago … I’m a bit slut for magic, supernatural and good worldbuilding that entices me. Kinda like me wanting to escape into a magical, mystical world trying to make sense of it.
I already DM D&D 5E for friends, so “high fantasy” is not my main focus here. I get to make up plenty of that already.
One of the things that I dislike is sad endings and open endings. They leave me unsatisfied and that’s not what I’m looking for. I don’t mind sadness or drama at all. In my mind I want to see myself in the protagonist and “win” with them. Does that make sense?
Other than maybe American Gods (which I will likely check out as my first book), maybe you have any more suggestions? If you have any, please let me know! I’d love to hear what you may have read so I can pick up this hobby of mine again! Thank you!
