I have a serious problem where I am an english major in college and Speaking truthfully, I don’t read nearly as much as I should. The problem is I find reading to be a chore, but I love writing. I understand pretty well that the more you read, the better you write, so I need stuff that can keep my interest, So my monkey brain can learn how to love reading. Recommend me books reddit, stuff that’s digestible. Not necessarily quick, but not something that’s gonna require multiple readings to understand. I’m trying to get through blood meridian right now and i’m in hell because it’s so difficult to understand sometimes i’ve had similar problems with virginia woolf and Dostoyevsky. I gotta work my way there. HALP

Side note. Books I like in the past are the giver, tuck everlasting, a farewell to arms (tuff to get thru tho), berserk(not a book but it’s writing), the hobbit/ lord of the rings series.

    1. what genre do you wish to read in? also maybe start off with an audiobook and easy you’re way in or even try tandem reading (audio and physical reading simultaneously).

If you liked The Giver, I’d recommend the rest of the series. There are 3 more books that tell the rest of the story and are really good. Then try The Hunger Games, or The Chronicles of Narnia.

    3. I’ve never enjoyed reading for study, and I’ve always struggled to read during semester. So I’d say relax and keep an open mind and books will find you. If you do want to push it, what about poetry and non fiction? Biographies, essays, history, science – there’s heaps to read if novels don’t grab you. Also, I think Cormac McCarthy is hugely overrated, so I give you permission to put that down and read something good.

20,000 leagues under the sea is a good start.

or you can also go for some Earnest Hemingway works.

      good for starters.
