I have a very complicated relationship with my mother, it took me a long time to understand that this has been affecting me negatively. I am healing in my way, also thanks to my supportive spouse and my wonderful children. So this topic is close to my heart, I avoided the topic deliberately for years because I wasn’t sure if it would trigger me.
I want to read fiction that deals with complicated relationships between mothers and children, especially daughters. The prose must be good, subtle treatment preferred over melodramatic. Again, not mandatory but it would be good if there is either equal focus on both or more focus on the daughter/son character.
To set a little context, my mother had a rough childhood and no positive mother figures were there for her.
Note – I am **not** looking to read on this topic for any help in my healing or to understand the situation.
Please be kind in your comments.
My favorite authors/books – Claire Keegan, Daphne Du Maurier, GRRM, David Mitchell, God of Small Things, etc.
