    Wanting to read some engaging fiction (not so deep that I need to read for 10 hours before I understand the lore, but not just a kids book) involving things like vampires (not twilight), monsters, and some action or adventure.

      Rivers of London is another great urban fantasy series that does many of the same things (with less problematic content) but in a lower magic setting. It’s less of a constant roller coaster and more about police work (the main character is a young cop who discovers a small secret branch of the police that deals with the supernatural).

      Professor Dowell’s Head by Alexander Belyaev, a Soviet horror classic about an insane doctor and his experiments with reanimations and transplants.
