Just finished this book and it deserves all the praise it is getting. It is a reimagining of Huck Finn from Jim’s point of view.

For the first 100 pages or so it follows the original Huck Finn fairly closely and their journey down the Mississippi, but when they separate it follows what happens to James. I wouldn’t call it funny, but amusing in some parts. Heartbreaking in other parts. Violent in other parts.

The parts of Huck Finn Percival Everett changes in James actually make a lot of sense and add so much to the book.

Just a fantastic book that I would highly recommend to anyone
