Basically the title. I’m currently writing a book and want to read some books that I think will help me write my story better. My book isn’t necessarily about family dysfunction (though it’s a major factor in my MC’s motivation in the story) but I’m hoping my book will lead into a series and want to expand on my MC’s family-related issues in later instalments.
I’m specifically looking for books that are about a child and parent (daughter/father ideally) that are estranged due to any tragic circumstances during the former’s childhood and those that show how someone loses their partner while still trying to carry on with their life; especially if they have young children and the surviving parent has to manage alone without them.
If there are books with both scenarios in them then that would be perfect, but I plan on reading as many books to help me as I can so multiple suggestions are cool too.
Bonus points if the book is a sci-fi story too, but any genre will do
