The funniest book I have ever read was “John Dies At The End” by Jason Pargin. The followup books were also nice, but not as hilarious as the first one imo.

Since then I have been looking for books like that, but haven’t found one yet. Reddit threads often recommend satirical novels. I liked Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens, the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, Catch 22 etc. But they are primarily satire and are funny if you get the reference to related political, cultural or religious or other topical issues. In that regard, I found them funny, but not “belly aching, eyes watering” kinda funny, more like chuckles (because I also wouldn’t get many cultural/religious references).

Are there more situational comedy novels which are not satire, similar to say Jason Pargin’s books? Or similar to comedy movies that are not intellectually deep or anything, but are simply funny because of the ridiculous (or unbelievable) events that happen in the story?

If so, can you please recommend me some? 🙂

    1. I’d recommend Housemeeting by Lano and Woodley. It’s the funniest novel I’ve ever read, and it’s not trying to satirise anything.
