My wife is a big reader of fantasy books – and I am not so I’m out of my depth when trying to select books for her, but her birthday is coming up and she’s fast running out of new things to read from the current library.
I’m looking for fantasy books with LGBTQ+ characters. As we’re two gay women it would lean towards gay/lesbian/bi women, but all rainbow representation is good. I do know she gets a bit annoyed when a book is cited as an LGBTQ+ book and in reality there’s only a fleeting rainbow character as a token more than anything.
Books/Authors she’s enjoyed in the past are:
The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon
Fourth Wing and Iron Flame – Rebecca Yarros
Saga series by Brian K Vaughan
Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir
A Wizard of Earthsea – Ursula K Le Guin
Blood of the Choosen & Ashes of the SUn- Django Wexler
The Liveship Triology – Robin Hobb
The Riftwar Saga Series – Raymond E. Feist
She reaaally likes Brandon Sanderson and talks about Mistborn a lot.
She seems to have read a lot of Mercedes Lackey
Battleaxe – Sara Douglas (I think this one had a super strong female lead character and was an especially big fan of this one)
TIA!

Legends & Lattes seems like a good choice
I would recommend Freya Marske ‘A Marvellous Light’; the first book of the series has a romance between two men, but I understand the second book has two lesbian heroines.
