My husband and I are planning a road trip this summer to the Carolinas and as far south as Savannah, GA. We’re from New England. He went to the area as a kid but that was 30 years ago, and I’ve never been there.
Besides Nicholas Sparks (not trashing him, I just already know about him!) and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (already on my bookshelf!) what would you suggest to get me excited about visiting this area? I like general fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, memoirs… I’m pretty open. Not a big romance reader but not against it. 🙂

Pat Conroy, the greatest author out of South Carolina – you may know the Prince of Tides but many many others— especially great if you will be on the coast 🙂
Anne Rivers Siddons has a number of books set at least partially in that region.
Mary Kay Andrews has a short series of cozy mysteries set in Savannah and the surrounding area.
I just finished The Caretaker by Ron Rash. It takes place in a small town in Appalachian North Carolina.
