I was going through the books I had read so far and I realised that apart from Nicola Yoon and R.F Kuang, all of the authors that I had read had been white: Sarah J Mass, Jennifer Armentrout, Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood, Colleen Hoover etc.
I have no hate for these authors but I noticed that the romances or characters they wrote felt the same.
I would love to try more PoC authors for a rather fresh perspective.

– Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. This honestly had such a unique concept. It’s YA so I did find the romance a bit cringe/unnecessary but I’m also not someone who’s super big on romance to begin with 🙂
– The Inheritance trilogy by NK Jemisin
– The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by SA Chakraborty
– The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang
– Jade City by Fonda Lee
Shelly Laurenston/ GA Aiken (it’s the same author).
The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma
I’m not a romance girlie so idk if these will quite hit the spot for you but my favorites are Octavia Butler, Nnedi Okorafor, Marlon James, NK Jemisin, Fonda Lee, ML Wang, Tasha Suri and Ted Chiang.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna is a fun blend of romance and cozy fantasy, sounds like it would be up your alley! Jasmine Guillory, Talia Hibbert, Helen Hoang, and Nisha Sharma are also great WOC romance authors who also tell diverse love stories. You’ve got some great fantasy recs here, I’ll also toss in Xiran Jay Zhao (Iron Widow) and Hafsah Faizal (A Tempest of Tea).
Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
