The closest I ever got to something like this was Camille Flammarion’s “Astronomy for Amateurs” from the 19th century. Here’s a condensed sample of the introduction:

*”The crimson disk of the Sun has plunged beneath the Ocean. The sea has ornamented itself with the burning colours of the orb, reflected from the Heavens in a mirror of turquoise and emerald. The rolling waves are gold and silver, and break noisily on a shore already darkened by the disappearance of the celestial luminary.*

*The darkness gradually increases, and twilight gives way to the diamond tapestry of starry night. The most indifferent spectator of the setting Sun as it descends beneath the waves at the far horizon, could hardly be unmoved by the pageant of Nature at such an impressive moment.”*

I think this kind of writing is beautiful, but given the timeframe, some of the science in the book is dated. Any suggestions? Thanks. 🙂
