So I was going to read The Host but then I got to the point where I learned about the age gap between the main couple and I don’t think I can finish it but I really liked the concept. Specifically the aliens that are basically parasites, kind of like venom or carnage and I was really hoping it would result in a poly relationship.
So…
Sci-fi alien/parasite romance. That would be cool but if it doesn’t have romance thats okay too.

Star Trek novels with Trill.
Also, somewhat hilariously, there is what seems to be an Ellison story How’s the Nightlife on Cassilda? I don’t think it quite fits, but you might get a kick out of it.
Here are some. Most of these have no romance, though, and none of them have polyamorous relationships. If you want I can make a separate list of fiction with polyamory:
* Leech by Hiron Ennes. One of my favourites. The protagonist is a hive mind parasite that puppets around all the doctors.
* Peeps by Scott Westerfeld. Young adult sci fi that tries to incorporate real science. It references a lot of real parasites and gives basic explanations of how they work, but it’s still pretty fantastical.
* [Interstellar Pig and Parasite Pig](https://www.goodreads.com/series/53167-interstellar-pig) by William Sleator. Also young adult sci fi.
* Nonfiction: [Parasite Rex](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/815394.Parasite_Rex) by Carl Zimmer. I believe Peeps and Parasite Pig were both heavily inspired by this book. I read it while taking a parasitology class in university and it was useful. Not at all what you’re looking for, but you may find it interesting.
* Blood Music by Greg Bear. There’s both a [short story version available free on the publisher’s website](https://www.baen.com/Chapters/9781625791153/9781625791153___2.htm), and a novel version. IMO the novel version starts with way too much filler, but once you reach chapter 7 it really picks up.
* Parasite by Mira Grant. I have not read this yet, it’s on my list.
* The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. Huge fan of this author, but I’m kind of a wimp and I’m too scared to read this one, lol.
Xenogenesis by Octavia Butler. They’re not inside the body but I still think it fits the bill
