I keep on asking on this subreddit, but the answer I get is “UM AKSCHUALLY read comic books🤓” or “cartoons are for kids, books are meant to be imagined”. I’m looking for a regular book with illustrations in it such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, or Dork Diaries. I am **NOT** looking for comic books.

Do you want to read more books like diary of a wimpy kid or do you mean an older version of diary of a wimpy kid, dork diaries, etc?
You could try something by James Thurber, who was well known as both an illustrator and humorous writer. My Life and Hard Times is well illustrated.
Illustrations were also very popular in Victorian novels, so you could also look for editions of Dickens that include the original drawings.
I’m not sure if you’d consider it too close to a comic book but Alison Bechdel’s memoir Fun Home is great.
*Hyperbole and a Half* by Allie Brosh.
Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess might not have high enough density of illustrations for you, but it’s great.

Comment was removed due to link, but maybe Allie Brosh. She has Hyperbole and a Half and Solutions and Other Problems (haven’t read).
You can read a chapter of her Hyperbole on her old site, just google “hyperbole and half.” It’s the first result that comes up, and the first post on the site.
They are kind of expensive, but the Folio Society is a publishing company that not only has unique book covers but illustrations as well. I got my husband a copy of Dune a few years ago and it’s beautiful. They have classics, modern fiction, sci-fi, children’s lit, seriously every category. Checking out their website would definitely be worth it.
