I keep starting books and just cannot get into them! Is this normal for a book lover? Either the writing is off, I don’t love the characters, or something makes me feel sad? And I close the book.
Looking for something like Liane Moriarty. I don’t like reading about sex, nothing traumatic (especially involving kids). So- as the title says-
Feel good! Depth! Good writing! Good characters!
Lastly- “Feel good” doesn’t need to be corny- I just don’t want to feel depressed right before bed- ya know?! 🙂

If you’re open to a very long book, [The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard!! It’s a beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world, with a heavy focus on platonic relationships.
It sounds like you may have undiagnosed ADHD if you can’t give a book a real chance bc it isn’t immediately “feel good.” Some books take a little effort, or at least time to get good.
Tbh I’m only 5 chapters in so far but 1984 is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Every chapter so far is so perfectly written. It definitely isn’t “feel good,” but there is a great deal of implied satire to it so it’s worth a glance.
