Certain books have become classics or incredibly popular, with almost everyone familiar with them. Books such as Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Great Gatsby, and etc… But have you ever come across a book that, despite having had enough time to gain popularity or status as a classic, seems surprisingly underappreciated? I’m curious to hear if you have encountered books that aren’t necessarily on par with the examples I mentioned but left you wondering why they haven’t reached a wider audience or become A CLASSIC by now. Just looking for your thoughts, hope my question is clear!

The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni
A bunch of stuff by Dawn Powell. She’s not totally unknown, but her stuff was out of print for a long time and I feel like she should be way more famous than she is — like Edith-Wharton-level. The Locusts Have No King and Angels on Toast are probably my favorites of hers.
