There is popular discourse on various social media platforms where the readers of certain genres or books (ex. Russian Literature/classics) adopt an elitist attitude. They look down upon people who prefer more simpler works. There seems to be this mentality that the ones reading classics are more intelligent and knowledgeable.
I, personally like reading classics but sometimes read young adult fiction and webtoons as a form of palate cleanser. Reading complex works gets a bit tiring for me. I feel that all kinds of books have some sort of knowledge to provide, irrespective of the genre.
What is your take on this topic? Do you read just for pleasure or for gathering knowledge and enriching your mind?
