When I was little I loved to read things like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Those and The Little Prince were the first books that made me like reading.

As I grew my taste evolved. I like graphic novels and comics because of the beauty that can come from the use of art and particular choices in panneling and other structural and drawing matters, but I still LOVE the way regular books are written. Graphic novels/comics (nowadays) don’t really tell a story the same way regular old prose does for reasons most people here can guess.

The other day I saw a kid with the Gravity Falls Author’s journal and I thought “How cool!”and I thought back to those first two books of mine and a couple more I remember reading as a kid and holding my old woman cane I was like “Back in my day!” but is it really true there aren’t many books with illustrations built into the story and not just as cool pieces of art on the side?

If you know some, drop some by the comments cause I’m in the mood to get a good couple of them!

the first thing that came to mind is Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. The illustrations are pretty simple doodles but there’s a good chunk of em.

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott is a sort of Victorian science fiction book about an inquisitive square in the 2D world, his life there and his explorations into the 1D and 3D worlds. The author included some illustrations to show the story more clearly, and these really add to the charm of the story.
