SciFi/Fantasy/Romance recommendations that aren’t a multi book series?
I’ve read a lot of trilogies/multi book series recently and frankly I’m exhausted by the idea of starting another hefty series. What are your best recommendations for a single book, or heck, even a duology? Thank you!!
Fantasy romance: Spinning silver or Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Scifi: Do androids dream of electric sheep by Philip Dick
Kindred by Octavia Butler
Scifi fantasy: Light from uncommon stars by Ryka Aoki

Serpent’s Touch by Marina Simcoe (Duology).
Forest of Spirits by S.J. Sanders.
Galactic Kings Series by Anna Hackett.
Horde Kings of Dakkar Series by Zoey Draven.
Although it says series, the books can be read as standalones, no problem.

Priory Of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon was an excellent read for me last year and I have been recommending it every chance I get. There is a prequel but it is not necessary unless you enjoy the first.

Hurog duology by Patricia Briggs

A Memory Called Empire / A Desolation Called Peace duology by Arkady Martine!! Excellent sci-fi with some subtle romance. Also seconding Naomi Novik’s Uprooted and Spinning Silver, and the Priory of the Orange Tree!

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Edith Holler by Edward Carey (his fantasy books are wonderful and are all standalone).
The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky is great sci-fi. So is Providence by Max Barry and War of the Maps by Paul MacAuley.

For sci-fi, the overwhelming majority of Arthur C. Clarke’s books as standalone stories, all exploring a unique concept. I’d recommend *The City and the Stars* and *Childhood’s End* especially. *Rendezvous With Rama* is technically the first book of a trilogy, but really all of its sequels are awful and you won’t lose anything at all from not reading them.
