Hey everyone! I’m looking for suggestions for graphic novels that are more substantial plotwise, almost like a novel? Most of the lists I find are smaller ones like Heartstopper, Nimona or like Maus, Sandman etc and while they are also great, it’s just not what I’m looking for?

Examples of ones that fit this bill (in my head) –
Blankets and Habibi by Craig Thompson
    Persepolis series by Marjane Satrapi
Fun Home, Are you my mother etc by Alison Bechdel
Some books by Joe Sacco and Guy Delise
Same Difference by Derek Kirk Kim
    Aya series by Marguerite Abouet

Or even slightly more comic ones like-
    Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi
    Cardboard by Doug TenNapel
    Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol

Sorry if my list is more confusing than anything else, but I would love some new suggestions!

    2. For finding new graphic novels, I suggest:

-looking at presses that put out graphic novels you like, and seeing what other books those presses publish.

Craig Thompson’s work is put out by Drawn & Quarterly, Drawn & Quarterly also publishes Guy Delisle, and the Aya Series.

      Persepolis is on Pantheon.

Joe Sacco’s work is on Fantagraphics.

      Fantagraphics also publishes Anders Nilsen.

Same Difference is on First Second.

The Amulet series is on Graphix, as is Cardboard by Doug TenNapel.

A second idea is to ask your local library for lists of graphic novels they recommend, and they should be able to direct you to some good books! Have fun! 🙂
