Hello! It’s my mums 68th birthday this week and I want to get her a few books. She likes fiction, reads a lot of war time romancey type books. The last book I got her that she enjoyed was the Clydesiders trilogy by Margaret Thomson Davis, but one year I got her Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and she enjoyed that too. The books don’t have to be set during a war, those are just the ones that spring to mind that I know she enjoyed.
Thanks!

Has she read The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson?
Has she read any of the “Maisie Dobbs” series books by Jacqueline Winspear? “female sleuth” set in and around early 1900’s England. Read in order if you/she decides to try. There’s only minimal on/off romance and no sex or foul language. Historical fiction elements throughout. Unique storylines and writing style.
Great audiobook narration available to USA listeners (Orlagh Cassidy) but may still not be available in Great Britain or other European markets.
I might also recommend “We Must Be Brave” by Frances Liardet. I just recently finished the audiobook and immensely enjoyed it. I’m relistening as it’s the kind of book you want to go back to take in the many different small events in her life that now have new meaning as you realize how things concluded. But for an American listener, the audiobook is the best way to enjoy this title. It’s beautifully narrated.
Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann combines romance with suspense, and has flashbacks to WW2. Loved it and the rest of her Troubleshooters series.
if she hasnt already read it. Try Kate Quinn
The Alice Network
The Rose Code
these are perfect IMO
