For a while now I’ve been reading through books I’ve been able to find with main characters who’re gay or lesbian or bi. And now I kind of need help figuring out what to read next.
I’ve enjoyed books such as The Luminous Dead, Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail, TJ Klune’s stories, Red White and Royal blue, Lion’s Legacy, The secret life of Albert Entwistle, and most recently Ann Cleeves’ story about Matthew Venn. If it helps I also enjoy podcasts such as Welcome to Nightvale.
My only requirements are a happy ending for the main characters, and that the character is shown to be gay not just slightly hinted. (Bi is also fine ofc but I’m not interested in reading wxm romance atm). Character being in a relationship is a plus but it’s not strictly necessary. I’m especially looking for something similar to Ann Cleeves’ series. Honestly I’m ready to read about anything.
Grateful for any suggestions 🙂

I always recommend Good Omens
1. Last Night at the Telegraph Club
2. Less
I loved both of these books. Happy reading!
**Fantasy and SFF**
Ellen Klages writes (historical) fantasy with queer characters; I really loved her novella *Passing Strange* – lesbian time travel to San Francisco in the 1940s, with trans characters? Yes please!
Similarly, *Outlawed* by Anna North is an alternate history book with bandit/outlaw main characters who are all AFAB, many are queer, set in the American ‘ West’ (Montana or the Dakotas?) in the late 1800s. content warnings for reproductive coercion and violence.
If you like the vibe of *Outlawed*, *Wake of Vultures* follows an Indigenous transmasc protagonist who has romantic encounters with people of different genders as part of a larger fantasy adventure story. **warning*****,*** I didn’t finish this series so I am not sure if there is a “happy ending”! stop at Book 3 if you want a guaranteed happy place to end.
*In Other Lands* by Sarah Rees Brennan has a M/M romance between a bi character and a gay character (iirc). Our mundane main character somehow ends up in a fantasy realm for summer camp.
**Romance**
for romance – I recently read and enjoyed *Boyfriend Material* by Alexis Hall (M/M romance). Also, Alyssa Cole’s novella – *Once Ghosted, Twice Shy* was a sweet F/F romance. And, if you want something spicier, Rebekah Wetherspoon’s got you covered with *Treasure* or *At Her Feet*. *Sing Anyway*, by Anita Kelly has NB and fat characters. Tender romance. For M/M romance, another one I read recently and actually really liked was *You’re A Mean One, Matthew Prince*, by Timothy Janovsky.
If you’re interested in Victorian-era fantasy, I recommend The Last Binding trilogy by Freya Marske. The first book focuses on a relationship between two men, the second book two women, and the third book two different men. The relationships are all very sweet and end up happily. There are explicit, consenual sex scenes in each book, if that’s make or break for you. And the story is great!
