I’m looking for a book that’ll get my skin crawling, feel uneasy, tense while reading, etc. i’ve never enjoyed horror movies/shows etc but i really want to experience an actual scary/horror book. i know you can’t really do jump scares in a book, but whatever is the equivalent of that.
closest things i’ve read to what i’m looking for is no exit, kiss the girls, tender is the flesh, and the housemaid but these are still not quite scratching that itch. my girlfriend has also suggested the shining which is pretty close.
i’m also open to supernatural stuff or anything that’s not real. i was at a book store earlier in the horror section and most of what i found was just stuff like “detective can’t chase down unknown murderer” but that’s not really what i want. i hope im making sense!
