Hi all! I’m in search of some fantasy suggestions. I’m not super into a lot of the tropes that are really prevalent right now, so I feel like I’ve had a little bit of a hard time finding some recent/contemporary books I’d be interested in.
Some traits I’m looking for:
– Setting that isn’t medieval, especially if it’s more recent — up to and around industrialization especially!
– Focus on politics/political intrigue that isn’t about monarchy or courts.
– Questions/subverts “great figure” myth making.
– Super awesome special bonus points if the protagonist a sort of Judas-like figure.
– Standalone, not part of a series.
– Published in the last ten-fifteen years.
I’m *not* looking for something that meets **all** of these criteria, just books that meet any. I’m **most** looking for books that are standalones and that are in settings that aren’t medieval.
Thanks!
