I’m looking forward to Salman Rushdie’s memoir Knife, about his attempted murder a couple years ago, but I can’t find a single review of it, seven days before release. Naturally, it’s a best-seller waiting to happen, but if this were something like a scandalous political memoir, the sort that leak their juiciest bits to CNN a couple days before release, would it really harm the book’s sales? I can’t think of a time when something other than a *Harry Potter* or *Game of Thrones* release was both highly-anticipated, and utterly unexposed this close to release.
Any thoughts about this? Is it a marketing strategy? Do publishers ever impose review embargoes?
