I don’t know how else to describe what I’m looking for — the guidelines are loose, but I feel picky. I want something with poetic prose that is easy-reading, not too surreal & flowery, with themes grounded in reality — like Geek Love or The Bell Jar.. with maybe a little more going on than TBJ. I like weird & gritty fiction (Chuck Palahniuk, Jeffery Eugenides) but I think I’m searching for something with a female author.
Some of my favourite books are Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle & Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
