I love stuff like valley of the dolls, flowers in the attic, the virgin suicides, lolita, and even the more contemporary stuff like yellowface by RF kuang and severance by ling ma. I really really like anything soapy/gossipy but with horror elements that arent like stephen king bullshit (no offense to stephen king fans) but more so like. Exploiting/tapping into distinctly gendered fears and experiences. Am also open to tangentially related higher-brow family drama stuff like jhumpa lahiri’s the namesake. but I really prefer 20th-century bullshit about women being scared/sad.
