Fiction books in which the narrator acts like the author of the book and exists in the world of the story

To be clear, I do not necessarily mean when the main character just so happens to be a creative person and the plot twist at the end is that they are going to make a book/movie based on their experience in the book (a common trope I’ve seen too much in romance books). I mean that throughout the book the narrator seems to personally know the characters and may directly or indirectly say that the book is a “true story” or may even be writing something that happened to them. The narrator knows they are in a book since they are the ones who wrote it. I enjoy any fiction genre except horror or if there’s too much sexual stuff, please. Thank you in advance.
