What I mean are books like *My Friend Dahmer* by Derf Backderf, a cartoonist who went to high school with Jeffery Dahmer, or *The Young Hitler I Knew* by August Kubizek, who was roommates and friends with Adolf Hitler when the latter tried getting into art school in Vienna.
I find books like these fascinating because they offer glimpses into the early lives of people before they became the monsters they’re known as today.
