Does the lightly comedic, sci fi adventure novel still exist?

I was thinking of getting into writing by writing a novel semi-inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy movies but do they exist in a genre of their own or is there a book market for that, or is it a thing of the past? Sci-fi books I’ve read have tended to be dark and gritty like the Culture novels or the Expanse.
