I’m trying to read a book from each US state! I’m planning to paint a map with all the covers when I’m done. So far, I’ve read books from…
Oregon (One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest)
Idaho (Educated)
California (Kasher in the Rye, Know my Name)
Montana (Lure of the Dim Trails)
New Mexico (Wild Animals I have Known)
Texas (Me and Mr. Cigar)
Oklahoma (The Outsiders)
Arkansas (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings)
Alabama (To Kill a Mockingbird)
Maryland (The French Braid)
Massachusetts (Dirtbag, Massachusetts)
New Jersey (Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret)
New York (Catcher in the Rye, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn)
Maine (It, Salem’s Lot, Pet Sematary, every King book ever)
Would love some suggestions and im open to any genres (nonfiction, memoir, literary, classics, sci-fi, general fiction, historical, whatever!)

For Kansas, everyone always suggests Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood (which is a great classic and a valid choice), but if you want something a little outside-the-box, try Oceans of Kansas: A Natural History of the Western Interior Sea by Michael J. Everhart.

For Indiana Jean Shepherd’s In God We Trust: All Others Must Pay Cash was the inspiration for the classic Christmas movie A Christmas Story.
The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All The Way Down by John Green are both set in Indianapolis and are more recently published.
