Could be a graphic novel too, or even a manga series, but I’m thinking of stories like Inoue’s Vagabond or Vinland Saga’s Thorfinn where they learn how to be better people, both morally but also in the livelihood they practice (any skill or profession they’re in). It’s not simply just a character doing a 180, there’s more to it as they learn about things they couldn’t understand before.
There’s usually motifs of some wiser figure teaching them how to be better, as well as extreme challenges to their pride and image that helps them in rebuilding themselves. Sometimes a greater philosophical message can be taken from it, but it isn’t necessary.
I’m thinking in the line of action-adventure, but that’s just what I’m used to. I’m open to any other genre as long as there’s a tangible conflict and plot, and not just a slice of life setting.
