Basically title
I just really really don’t care for anything modern feeling in novels. I want to be taken to some setting that doesn’t feel like the world I actually live in. No, I’m not looking for high fantasy and whatnot as I do really like the themes that magical realism deals in. I just don’t want modern tech or modern locations (like Los Angeles or referring to New York City with images of sky scrapers and cars)

Have a look at Hanna Alkaf’s books The Girl and the Ghost or Hamra and the Jungle of Memories – they’re based on Malaysian folklore and although they’re set in the present time, there’s a sense that they could be taking place in any era.
