Start with the short stories to get a feel for his writing. My first King was Skeleton Crew which has the Mist in it. If you like time travel read 11/22/63. If you like mysteries read Mr. Mercedes. If you like scary read IT, Cujo, Misery, or the Shining. If you like Fantasy read Talisman or Fairy Tale. I love the Gunslinger series but do not recommend as a first King read. There are 7 books.
