I’m rereading The Black Echo by Michael Connelly and I’m reminded how tiring I find this particular trope. I’m in this for the murder mystery. I want to read about a detective working a case and solving it. I always find the obligatory office politics, angry sgt, and conspiracy to be exhausting. Any suggestions for detective fiction that forgoes this trope would be appreciated.
