I’m at a standstill and keep going back to books I’ve read previously because I just can’t quite find anything new that grabs me. My absolute favourite genre is fantasy/scifi (dragons, dragons, dragons!) but I’m open to other genres as well. I’m ok with YA and “romantasy” but gratuitous sex scenes aren’t a big thing for me.
Authors and books that I have read previously – Raymond E Feist, Stephen King, JRR Tolkien, Douglas Adams (these would be my absolute top authors), Jilly Cooper, Marian Keyes, Shalini Boland, Freida McFadden, Liane Moriarty, Sarah J Maas. I’ve read Harry Potter, Hunger Games and other similar series (Fifth Wave, Maze Runner, Divergent). I’ve read most of the Dragonlance books. I’ve read Mortal Instruments and enjoyed in but didn’t love it. I have read Fourth Wing – liked it, but Iron Flame did nothing for me.
I have tried Terry Pratchet but it confuses me as to where to start. I got partway through Mort (I think it was) and it wasn’t gripping me, but if anyone has any suggestions for a better or different starting point, I could do that.
I’d say I’m not into violence or gore .. but Stephen King is probably my all time favourite, so that blows that out of the water.
I would prefer a nice chunky series that I can lose myself in, but I have read lots of stand alone books too.

Arc of a Scythe series by Neal Shusterman is good. It’s even better on audiobook. The opening line grabbed me immediately.
