I think the Dungeon Crawler Carl series is a great and easy way to get into sci-fi. The series re-ignited my love for reading and I read the whole series in two weeks. The comedy makes the books easy to digest. The series follows a man and his newly sentient cat who try to survive after aliens have turned the entire earth into a deadly videogame like game show.

    2. I don’t do much sci fi either but I really enjoyed Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer.

Macunaima by Mario de Andrade, a classic Brazilian fantasy based on Amazonian mythology and folklore.

The more I think about your question, the more I’m leaning towards the classics that lean YA. Chronicles of Narnia, His Dark Materials, Ender’s Game, even Harry Potter. You will a lot of scifi/fantasy vibes without the complications of an adult series
