So this is a bit of a different one for me – two weeks ago my life got completely flipped upside down. I had a seizure out of nowhere and the MRI found a brain tumour. A week ago I had brain surgery to remove it (as much as possible).
I’m an avid reader but – not surprisingly, I’m sure – between processing the news, the meds and the surgery I haven’t opened a book since the seizure.
I’m now back home after surgery but have a long road to recovery with lots of mandated rest. I feel like maybe I’m ready to crack a book, but not reaching for my normal go tos – more usually on the lit fic side of things.
So I guess what I’m after are reads to just ease me back in
– something shorter and lighter
– no themes of death or illness (murders okay haha)
– nothing too schmaltzy, it’s just not my bag
What I’ve enjoyed in that sort of vein I guess I’d include Remarkably Bright Creatures,
Thursday Murder Club series, any Kevin Wilson, Claire Keegan or Sarah Winman. But happy to go even lighter/easier/shorter.
Thanks guys, appreciate your recommendations and appreciate this community at this very surreal time.
