Lately I’ve been reading a lot of books that weren’t my choice, for various reasons. I’ve decided that this weekend I’m going to give myself the treat of reading something that’s purely for my own enjoyment, that I can curl up with in a comfy chair and drink tea, eat biscuits and just lose myself in reading. Basically, I’m planning a date with a book 😆
I’d like to read something new to me, so I’d love to hear about your favourite book for this kind of situation. I’m open-minded about genre, but the more of these boxes can be ticked, the better:
– really immersive
– written fairly recently (mid-1900s onwards?)
– beautiful use of language
– something with depth, but that doesn’t make a reader work too hard
– not gritty/gory/violent
– emotion is fine, but not unrelenting tragedy
– nothing twee, cutesy or that could be described as “cosy”
Thank you if you have a recommendation!
