Hello I’m a 27 male and have never really been into books or have given them a proper chance, I think that’s due to not having a great imagination (I just learned about Aphantasia and realised I have it) anyways due to my house being set on fire I will be in a hotel for a few months and traveling also, so I came here to ask you wonderful people please recommend me some books to pick up that will keep me engaged and not so bored as there is only so much TV/phone apps I can handle a day.
I’m open to any genres I think what I will do is pick up 1-2 books from 3 different genres to see what I liked best and continue from there, sorry if that’s too vague but I’m looking forward in reading your replies.

[Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/397483.The_Devil_in_the_White_City?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=2vjGiohIPM&rank=1) is a non-fictional account of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and surrounding events. It reads like fiction, which makes it a very attractive and engaging read.

I’m sorry to hear about the fire.
I’d recommend starting simple, how about something you’ve seen the movie of so you can picture it?
Something like Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton would be good and then maybe try some of his other books?
You will see and hear online people shitting on books like the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child but they are easy to pick up and follow and are fun.
What If? By Randall Munroe. He takes absurd scientific questions and treats them very seriously, following them through to their scientific conclusion. Like what would happen if there was a hole in the bottom of the ocean that drained on to the moon? Very short chapters that don’t have to be read in multiple sittings. The audiobook is also great, if that’s a thing you want to try. You miss the cartoon drawings, but Wil Wheaton’s delivery is pretty stellar.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!
Sorry to hear about your house. The book “Universally Screwed: Thrown across the universe, deeply confused, looking for the bathroom.” It’s on a free amazon kdp giveaway for the next few days. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
It’s very funny with rich narration and bizarrely evocative descriptions. You’ll never be board.
