I have a friend who has been battling through pointlessness and misery in life- he finds world a very cruel place to live in, void of beauty and happiness. He thinks happiness is an illusion and even the happiest circumstances are a result of us stepping over on someone else’s misery. He is single (and has few friends) and usually digs way too deep in conversations, he has read most of the mainstream philosophical books and that just made him go from a stoic to nihilist- well, the more he has been reading, the more I am finding him sad (which probably isn’t the reason but a wild correlation).

So, what books would be good to gift him so that he finds beauty in life, that happiness isn’t an outcome of misery but a choice to live that moment, something that would bring him close to grass, greens and forests, something that would make him notice the smiles, small shared joys, moments of passion and love, and just the state of content we can see in people even with miseries, books that would help him realize that even with pointlessness, life is still fulfilling. Something that would help him realize that happiness is syncing with the happiness of other people and that it isn’t just a self-sprung notion of life, that happiness isn’t individual but shared, something that would make him stop thinking about what happiness consists of? Something that would help him explore the romantics of life please…
