I’d like to read a romance where the conflict is not due to misunderstandings/communication issues between the protagonist and love interest but instead it is the world/society that creates the conflict. Kind of like in The Song of Achilles where it’s Achilles and Patroclus against the world. Obviously there are occasional interpersonal issues in TSoA but it rarely lasts a few pages and is more meant to drive along the plot for the central conflict, you know? I really dislike reading romances where they’re constantly lying to one another and creating more problems than necessary due to their own insecurities.

Also I feel like this type of romance is usually in books where the romance part is secondary to another genre (ex. fantasy, dystopia, etc) which is why there is able to be romance without interpersonal conflict but I’d hope to get recommendations where it is the primary focus. Still, I’m always open for all recs even if the romance is secondary!
