    Hello fellow bookworms! 📚 🐛

I’m not sure how to describe what I’m looking for succinctly so I’m having trouble finding the books I’m sure exist somewhere…

I am looking for books that use figurative language and inventive vocabulary for stories without a ton of fantasy or science fiction. I find that I love reading fantasy/science fiction for the vocabulary/figurative language, but I’ve fallen into a rut where I’ve read so much that the tropes really stand out and the twists that used to be surprising seem less clever than they used to. This isn’t the authors’ faults—it’s just pattern recognition on my part getting in the way of things 😂😅

I enjoy *Discworld* and that’s kind of what I’m going for but with less fantasy if possible. Something a bit more….grounded? The feeling I am looking for is equal parts fantastic and relatable; and language that is creative and even perhaps poetic without being flowery.

The works of Cordwainer Smith also scratch this itch, but at times dive into heavy science fiction which again takes away the grounded aspect.

(I love both *Discworld* and Cordwainer Smith- the above notes are not complaints just observations)

Anyhow, if any of you awesome peeps have any recommendations please let me know. I’m also posting a version of this in r/Dimension20 because the epic/poetic storytelling in the series is kind of what I’m looking for but I don’t know how much crossover there is between that community and this one so wanted to post here as well.

    Thanks for any recommendations! 📖💗
