SPOILERS – I don’t know how to hide text so just don’t read this post.
Okay, just finished this book and read a bit of other discussions around this book but yet to see much discussion on The Cave.
I’m quite a literal person and usually miss subtleties that can explain a story and missed that the narrator could have schizophrenia. From this a lot of other experiences of Samantha are put into question but I’ve yet to see much discussion about the two scenes in ‘the cave’.
The two scenes in the cave are very bizarre and unlike other scenes in the book. The first one with the bunnies is strange yet realistic but is it? My thought is that Max has control of the bunnies but how?
The next scene in the cave is very strange and I believe this is part of Samantha’s mind and current stressors.
Great book
Let me know your thoughts!

I think the schizophrenia angle is just on the verge of “Pokemon was Ash in a coma” level, IMO.
It’s a horror book with an unreliable narratior. You’re supposed to not be entirely sure what’s real or not, that’s not necessarily saying she has schizophrenia specifically, lol. You might as well argue that 100 Years of Solitude was a fever dream.
Max doesn’t control the bunnies he’s just Hot.
I don’t remember what the second Cave scene is, can you elaborate?
