I like sci-fi but so many tend to bait the idea of some sort of romance without actually following through in a satisfying way (just so there’s an excuse to put a pretty lady on the cover) Most often it’s just a guy with an endless string of flings, which is boring to me, *or* a dead wife / gf backstory, *or* there actually is a compelling romance but it ends with one of them dying, or just splitting up at the end. The usual response I get is “well duh just read a romance then??” but the thing is I like the settings of sf-fantasy and the heightened stakes they come with tend to elevate the emotions involved as well. I don’t need romance to be “realistic”, just *convince* me of their love in the same way you’re able to convince me of make-believe worlds.
Campy space opera is great, but more grounded hard sci-fi is fine too as long as the romance factor is really good.
Even better if it’s an human / alien romance, but I mean *alien* aliens, not just “sexy human with pointy ears”.
