As a father, I’m looking for recommendations on art books that could help my son enhance his visual literacy and gain a deeper understanding of visual content. Any suggestions?
I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but you might check out David Macaulay’s books.

Philip Yenawine was the head of museum education at MOMA. He developed VTS, Visual Thinking Strategies, a program to help develop visual literacy. He wrote a number of books about it and some museums like the Eric Carle of Picture Book Art uses VTS as a founding principle of looking at art.

Check out book’s illustrated by David Wiesner.
Mostly children’s books but he tells a story in his pictures. Tuesday is an old favorite that tells a ridiculous story involving flying frogs with only illustrations. Others have text and images, all good examples of telling stories thru images.
There is also an art book of his but it’s expensive used.
