I have bought , mostly non fiction but a few fiction too, books over the past three months, hoping to read them. I probably have bought like ten books in this time. I made sure I was really interested in these books, but , my goodness, I have the hardest time just cracking open one and reading but once I do , I feel good even if I can only read for 15 minutes (attention span is fucked). I have set a timer for 15-20 minutes and read until it went off but I strongly dislike doing it this way. The timer would startle me because I would be in the middle of a page and it would ruin my rhythm. Of course, if I read late at night before bed then I would set a timer to make sure I didn’t stay up all night. I just struggle so much with eliminating distractions and barriers to reading. Do you have this struggle? How did you get over it?

For me it was my struggle with technology. I listened to the audiobook Smart Phone Dumb Phone by Allen Carr and I’ve been consistently reading a lot more and am overall happier.

Disclaimer it’s got a completely irreverent take on the American judicial and corrections system that I heavily disagree with. And I didn’t take all the tools from the book. But past those things this book has been a huge life changer for me.
