Would you recommend Animal Farm if I didn’t like 1984?
1984 has got to be one of the worst most-famous books I’ve ever read. Really it was that bad for me. Would I hate animal farm though? Not sure if the problem with 1984 was George Orwell or how he chose to write that specific book.
It depends strongly on what exactly you didn’t like about 1984. It’s still a book about the ways human nature subverts the ideals of communism and the dangers of authoritarianism. It’s still a huge downer.

Honestly yes, I think Animal Farm is much easier to understand and the reading flow is better in Animal Farm than 1984. But im more interested why you were interested in those books in the first place.

Animal Farm is allegory, so it’s not really a book you read for enjoyment. It’s more a book educators make you read to discuss. It does make the context of the history it represents a bit easier to understand.

Yes!! I really didn’t care for 1984, and it went on foreverrrr. But I absolutely loved Animal Farm. I listened on audiobook and the performance was great.

Yes, I could ever get into 1984, but I loved Animal Farm. It was not a hard read at all and I think the style was very different.

It’s pretty different and feels more like a short story. But I did like both!

I read animal farm first and enjoyed it. Naturally I went to read 1984 immediately after and simply could not get through it. To date I’ve probably started and abandoned that book a dozen times. I think Animal Farm is more fast paced so it’s easier to stay engaged, plus it’s short enough that even if you don’t love it you’ll still manage to get through it.

I hated 1984 but thought Animal Farm was interesting. I read the latter in school though where we were discussing it, and I read 1984 just out of curiosity. I don’t know how I’d feel about Animal Farm if I just read it through, it’s not a fun book either, but it was interesting.

I flew through Animal Farm, but felt like 1984 was a slog. Give Animal Farm a try. It almost feels like it was written by a different author.

C.S. Lewis wrote an assessment of Orwell and in his comparison of 1984 and Animal Farm he argued that Animal Farm is the far superior work. As I recall, he bases that judgment on how Animal Farm is both more mythic and more humane than 1984. He said that the characters of 1984 are much less interesting and sympathetic than the pigs, the dogs, Boxer, of Animal Farm and that the structure of the shorter book forced Orwell to write a more powerful story. Having read those books several times I agree with his assessment. I think you will likely find Animal Farm to be a much better reading experience. To be fair, neither is a happy story…

What! 1984 was awesome! I loved it. I thought there were a couple parts that drones on when the main character was reading out of the book, but other than that I loved it, one of my faves.
