I speak Spanish as a second language but I rarely read novels in Spanish because I feel like they are hard to come by and the few ones I do find are very dense with a super high vocabulary for me like Gabriel Garcia Marcos. Also Spanish writing that I have seen is very different to English where one paragraph will be a whole sentence. Are there any native Spanish speakers here that would be able to recommend their favorite Spanish novels that would be good for someone who is not a native speaker? Even young adult recs would be good. I really want to do more reading in Spanish. I should mention I’m not a huge fan of reading books that have been translated. I prefer to experience a book in its original language if I’m able. My Spanish level is decent and I’ve spoken Spanish for over ten years now and use it daily in my work. I just hardly use it to read something other than an email.

Check out Carlos Ruiz Zafón. He’s a Spanish author, and his writing is amazing.
